The Network will serve as a platform to enable knowledge and practice exchange among members and the public, both regionally and inter-regionally. We embrace all kinds of academic scrutiny, social innovation, technological experiment as well as creative praxis as a way of knowledge production about or via the island. By standing in Hong Kong, a place surrounded by water connecting to the world, the Network will be a bridge for us all to link up with other interested parties, both regionally and inter-regionally, to open up a new horizon for island studies.

何渭枝先生

何渭枝先生自2011年起任職廉政公署社區關係處，2018年擔任處長至2022年底離任。
在擔任公職之前，何渭枝先生曾在多間本地和國際非政府組織擔任高級行政人員或董事會成員，相關組織工作範疇包括環境保護、關懷愛滋病友、全球扶貧、當代藝術教育、公平貿易和第三世界社會發展等。
何渭枝先生擁有英國薩塞克斯大學和斯里蘭卡凱拉尼亞大學的碩士學位。
Wai Chi served in the Independent Commission Against Corruption since 2011 and became the Director of the Community Relations Department in 2018 until his departure in 2022.
Prior to his public service, Wai Chi served as a senior executive or board member in several local and international NGOs with missions such as environmental protection, HIV/AIDS awareness, global poverty alleviation, contemporary art education, fair trade and social development in the third world.
Wai Chi holds MA degrees from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom and the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka.

Hong Kong cultural worker and former Executive Director of The Conservancy Association Center for Heritage. He is dedicated to promoting the conservation of community cultural heritage and planning and executing related cultural conservation projects. He has published the Virtue Under The Rooftop series, documenting disappearing community history and the culture of old shops. In addition, he has also curated the Typography and the Sea of Words – Study of Hong Kong Urban Landscape, exploring Hong Kong’s signage and typography culture to promote the conservation of cultural landscape.

藝評人、文化研究博士。殖民地最後一代大學生，以記者身份見證回歸；關注藝術生態、城市空間、藝術勞動及文化政治等議題。曾為「Para / Site 藝術空間」、「獨立媒體（香港）」、「伙炭」及「文化監察」成員。文章散見於《信報》、《獨立媒體》、《藝術界》(Leap)、《藝術新聞(中文版)》、《典藏》及《端傳媒》等。著作包括：《活在平常》(2012)及《我愛Art Basel──論盡藝術與資本》(2018)等。編著包括：《殖民地的現代藝術─韓志勲千禧自述》、《七一孖你遊香港》(白雙全作品集)、《Q[蹺]K[蹊]─陳育強標本集成》、《楊秀卓紅色二十年》、《香港藝術家故事──1998年訪談手稿》(梁志和著)等。梁氏現為藝評組織Art Appraisal Club成員及「2018 香港藝術發展獎」藝評組得主。居住南丫島凡二十年，近年更愛上島嶼研究，為《南丫說：》聯合策展人，及《模達今昔──南丫島灣歷史及社會研究計劃》作者。
Leung studied Fine Arts and Cultural Studies at the Chinese University and the Leeds University. She was a member of Para/Site Art Space, In-Media (Hong Kong) and Hong Kong Culture Monitor. Her research interests include, among others, art ecology, city space, cultural politics and art labour. Her essays and commentaries have been published in the Hong Kong Economic Journal, InMedia (Hong Kong), City Magazine, Occula and etc. She is also a contributor to various Chinese media platforms, including Leap, Art Newspaper (Chinese edition), Artouch and initium media. Publications edited by her include Modern Art in a Colony: Narrated by Hon Chi-fan at the Millennium, Odd One In: Hong Kong Diary (by Pak Sheung-cheun), QK – Specimen Collection of Chan Yuk Keung, The Red Twenty-years of Ricky Yeung Sau-churk, etc. Her latest title I Love Art Basel: On Art and Capital is well received in Hong Kong and Taiwan. She is now a member of the art critic collective, Art Appraisal Club. Leung has developed an interest in Island Studies recently and is the co-curator of Lamma Mia, and the author of Mo Tat Then and Now – Historical and Social Research on Mo Tat Wan, Lamma Island.

現居於香港坪洲的 Myriem Alnet，是一位專注城市本地方言及公共空間的獨立研究員及文化活動策劃。她嘗試通過對地方的研究、文化行動和與學術界的接觸來改變對日常空間的表述，如於香港離島協辦船到橋頭生活節，並出版地圖小誌《Islanders 島民》分享對坪洲日常的研調。
Myriem Alnet is an independent researcher and cultural organiser based in Peng Chau, Hong Kong, focusing on the topics of urban vernacular and public spaces. She experiments on ways to shift representations about spaces of the ordinary through research, cultural action and engagement with academia: she co-organised the Inter-Island Festival in the outlying islands of Hong Kong, and publishes the map-zine Islanders that investigates the ordinary condition of Peng Chau Island.

李敏婷，銅鑼灣避風塘蜑家妹，英國文學碩士，Facebook專頁《蜑家妹出走記》版主。曾經出走極地探險，現在從事可持續發展及保育工作，兼攻讀建築學博士。
Miriam Lee is a Tanka girl from the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter community. She has a master’s degree in English literature and is the author of the Facebook page Strolling Tanka. Once lived her childhood dream of polar exploration, she is currently working in the field of sustainable development and conservation, and is pursuing a PhD degree in Architecture.

李祖喬博士先於新加坡國立大學的社會科學院亞洲文化研究學程取得社會科學碩士學位，及後於香港中文大學獲得文化研究博士學位。
作為跨學科研究的參與者，他的作品散見於多份期刊，如《HAU︰民族誌理論》、《基進歷史評論》、《Critical Asia Archives》、《global-e》、《香港社會科學學報》、《香港研究》和《當代中國研究》。他同時活躍於知識轉譯，他是兩本英文學術專著的中文譯者，所撰寫的社會文化評論亦廣見於《明報》、《端傳媒》、《信報》、《am730》、《亞洲周刊》、《號外》、《藝訊》、《Sample》、《微批》、《META》、《Outside.hk》和新加坡《聯合早報》。
李氏為香港博士研究生獎學金（2017-2019）和柏林自由大學 Global Humanities Junior Fellowship（2018）得主。
Dr Li got his PhD in Cultural Studies from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his Master’s degree in Social Science from the Cultural Studies in Asia programme (Department of Sociology) at the National University of Singapore.
A practitioner of interdisciplinary studies, he has published in different journals, such as HAU: Journal of Ethnographic Theory, Radical History Review, Critical Asia Archives: Events and Theories, global-e, Hong Kong Journal of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Studies, Modern China Studies.
He is active in knowledge transfer. He has translated two academic books from English to Chinese. His socio-cultural commentaries can be found in Mingpao, Initium, Hong Kong Economic Journal, am730, Yazhou Zhoukan, City Magazine, Artslink, Sample, Paratext, META, Outside.hk, and Lianhe Zaobao (Singapore).
He was a recipient of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (2017-2019) and Global Humanities Junior Fellowship at Freie Universitaet Berlin (2018).

建築師／藝術人，2005年香港中文大學建築系碩士、2021年香港中文大學藝術文學碩士畢業。任職建築師期間活躍於藝術創作、藝展場館設計及本地／國際建築與藝術展策展工作，並曾創辦 ARTUP 藝術顧問及3fifteen 藝術空間。獲獎裝置及雕塑作品曾於本地及國際藝展展出，作品《鳴帆》及《信．念》現見於尖沙嘴科學館廣場及中環中央郵政總局。賽馬會「樂地生根」大埔／粉嶺藝展場館設計獲CHIVAS 18建築年獎設計大獎(2015)。2014年任威尼斯建築雙年展「三角四方 (1984-2044) 」策展團隊成員，亦曾以展出團隊成員身分參與深港建築雙年展「城市動員」(2009) 及「香港城市邊緣|理想之都」(2013) 、威尼斯建築雙年展「衣食住行」 (2010)及「垂直肌理 – 密度的地景」(2018)。
目前專注於藝術策展工作及空間心理學與感知研究項目。
Haynie Sze is an architect/art practitioner who graduated with a Master of Architecture (2005) and a Master of Art in Fine Arts (2021) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has been active in art making, exhibition venue design and curating, besides her career as a practising architect. She has also founded the 3fifteen Art Space and the ARTUP Art Consultancy. Her award-winning artworks have been exhibited in local and international art exhibitions. Public artworks include Whistling Aloft and the Letters installed at the Hong Kong Science Museum Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Central Post Office, Hong Kong. Venue design for the Hong Kong Jockey Club Heritage X Art X Design Walk Event Tai Po exhibition was awarded the Best Temporary Architecture Design (2015) of the CHIVAS 18 Architecture & Design Award. Her curatorial role includes being a curatorial team member of the Venice Biennale of Architecture – “Delta Four (1984-2044)” (2014), and has participated as an exhibitor team member in the SZ/ HK Bi-city Biennale of Architecture – “City Mobilization” (2009) & “Beyond the Urban Edge: The Ideal City?”(2013), and Venice Biennale of Architecture – “Quotidian Architectures” (2010) & “Vertical Fabric – Density in Landscape“ (2018).
She currently focuses on art curating and architectural research on spatial psychology and perception.

Zai Zau
祭酒，落根青衣嘅第二代。居於島內超過三十年，對地區歷史情有獨鍾。於地區專頁「青衣島民」設有專欄「祭酒話青衣」介紹與青衣島有關嘅風土人民，並帶領導賞團遊覽青衣各地。
「Zai Zau」, a person who is the second generation living in Tsing Yi. He has lived on this island for over 30 years. He is interested in studying his neighbourhood’s history while writing a special column on a community organization page called “Tsing Yi People”. The content mainly concerns the story that happened on the island.

Elmo GONZAGA is Associate Director of the MA in Intercultural Studies program of the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies of CUHK. He obtained his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley specializing in the Visual and Spatial Cultures of Southeast Asia and the Global South.
Monsoon Marketplace, his second monograph (under contract with Fordham University Press), traces the entangled genealogies of capitalist modernity, mass consumption, and media spectatorship in Manila and Singapore through representations of popular commercial and leisure spaces such as amusement parks, night markets, movie theaters, and shopping malls during colonial occupation in the 1930s, national development in the 1960s, and neoliberal globalization in the 2000s. An extract has been published in the Journal of Asian Studies.

Originally from Switzerland, I have been teaching at HKU since 2001. My main research interests evolved from my early work in the field of postcolonial studies, focusing on writing from the Pacific, or Oceania, specifically poetry and performance. From this developed a more general interest in island studies, especially in the historical and contemporary significance of vernacular island cultures and worldviews and their capacity to challenge dominant paradigms of globality. I have served on the editorial boards of the Island Studies Journal, Shima, and Urban Island Studies and have co-organized several conferences at HKU, including the symposium on Oceanic Archives and Transnational American Studies in 2012, the 15th Biennial Symposium on Literature and Culture in the Asia-Pacific Region on the theme of Elegance and Messiness in the Age of Risk in 2013, the second Island Cities and Urban Archipelagos conference in 2016, and the symposium The Space Between: Creativity, Performance and Impact in Contemporary Island Societies in 2018.
At HKU I have served on multiple committees and boards in various capacities and was an Associate Dean and Chairman of the Board of Examiners in the Faculty of Arts from 2006 to 2010 and Head of the School of English from 2010 to 2013. I was awarded a Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2017 and am currently the Director of the Full-time MAES Programme.

Wong Wai-ling was awarded PhD in Sociology by the University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include oral history studies of local communities. She has committed to several community oral history projects, such as Yau Ma Tei, To Kwa Wan, Nga Tsin Wai Village, the water community in Aberdeen and South Lamma. Her related works include: Memory scape: Oral Histories of Fishermen in Aberdeen, and can also be found on Hong Kong Memory website.
